FILM BUZZ OF THE WEEK 3

South Korean Parasite shocked at the Oscars, Joaquin Phoenix became the 2nd person to win an Academy Award for playing Joker, and Billie Eilish released a brand new James Bond theme song.

Parasite made history at the Oscars

When IndieWire wrote that the Oscars needed Parasite to win the Best Picture more than Parasite needed the coveted statue, we couldn’t agree more. The Academy, notoriously famous for its lack of diversity and rather conservative choices of winners, positively surprised with awarding the South Korean film with 4 Oscars: Best International Film, Best Screenplay, Best Director and Best Film.

It’s been delightful to watch a room full of Hollywood a-listers scream their lungs out for a film that, without a doubt, deserved to break the vicious circle of foreign movies being shut out from the race. A huge win both for South Korea and for diversity, and perhaps a long overdue one for the director Bong Joon-ho. He promised he will drink until the next morning, and we hope he enjoyed every single second of it 🙂

Run to the rescue with love and the peace will follow ?

There were plenty of memorable Oscar moments, including Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig’s hilarious “audition” right in front of Martin Scorsese, James Corden & Rebel Wilson roasting Cats in their feline costumes and Eminem’s surprise performance. Joaquin Phoenix’ win for the Joker was to be expected, and what a socially conscious speech he gave! “I think that’s when we’re at our best: when we support each other. Not when we cancel each other out for our past mistakes, but when we help each other to grow. When we educate each other; when we guide each other to redemption. When he was 17, my brother [River] wrote this lyric. He said: “run to the rescue with love and peace will follow…”

Sneak peeks into films that can’t come fast enough

We’ve gotten the first look at the new Batman and the trailer for The French Dispatch by Wes Anderson this week! Beyond excited!

No Time to Die

Billie Eilish has had quite a cinematic week. First, she performed a rendition of John Lennon’s Imagine in the “In Memoriam” section at the Oscars, and then she also became the youngest artist ever to record a James Bond theme song!
